One of the things I love most about being the guardian of sighthounds, is when I look up from what I am doing, to see my hound gazing at me from across the room. It is a soft, sleepy look that tells me they are safe, secure and content in that moment. Atlas and Ia have no reason to be looking at me whilst I draw at the table, and yet there they are, looking at me peacefully. To me it signifies that unconditional love, that bond of two hearts that are now forever intertwined. It automatically brings me a great sense of calm and inner sanctity, that I didn’t know I needed. How do they do it? Ia tends to give me this look whilst roaching on the sofa; back legs akimbo, tail goodness knows where and front legs stretched out like pool noodles. A humanly impossible position and yet those eyes, gazing at me, as if there was nothing but the two of us in the entire world. Magical.
